Detroit Tigers Designate Catcher for Assignment

The Detroit Tigers have designated Ali Sanchez for assignment.

The Tigers just claimed Michael Papierski, a fellow catcher, off waivers, so it makes sense for the Tigers to DFA Sanchez. Now, the 25-year-old is hitting the waiver wire and could very well get some interest due to his fairly young age. Keep in mind, the Tigers actually acquired him earlier this season from the St. Louis Cardinals through a waiver claim, after all.

In seven career MLB games, Sanchez has three hits in 14 at-bats. We will have to wait and see if another team claims him and gives him the chance to improve upon these career stats. Alas, we will have an answer to this question by the end of the week.
