San Diego Padres Outfielder Elects Free Agency

Matt Beaty has rejected an outright assignment from the San Diego Padres and has instead elected to become a free agent.

Beaty was recently designated for assignment by the Padres and then cleared waivers. Ultimately, it was not too surprising to see, as his 2022 season has been a complete and utter nightmare. In 20 games, he has just four hits in 43 at-bats, which equates to a .093 batting average. Needless to say, he has struggled immensely at the plate, but he will be hoping for the chance to redeem his bad year before it is over.

Beaty's ability to play multiple positions and solid track record could help him find a new home before the season is over. He is only one year removed from having a .270 batting average in 120 games with the Los Angeles Dodgers, so there is reason to believe he can bounce back. Let's see if he can do just that from here.
