San Diego Padres Infielder Clears Waivers

Earlier this week, Matt Beaty hit the waiver wire after being designated for assignment by the San Diego Padres. He has since cleared them and has now been outrighted to Triple-A El Paso.

Although Beaty remains with the Padres organization, for now, that is subject to change. Due to the fact that Beaty has three years of MLB experience, he has the opportunity to elect free agency if he wishes to instead of accepting this outright assignment.

Beaty appeared in 20 games with the Padres this season, and boy did things go poorly for him. In 43 at-bats, he had just four hits, which equates to an ugly .093 batting average. The 29-year-old just couldn't get it together at the plate as a Padre. It will be intriguing to see if he tests his luck elsewhere through free agency or simply stays put in Triple-A.
