Reds Promote 7th-Ranked Prospect

The Cincinnati Reds are set to promote their seventh-ranked prospect.

The Reds are calling up Spencer Steer to the major leagues. The team acquired him in the trade that sent starter Tyler Mahle to the Minnesota Twins.

Since being acquired by the Reds, Steer has recorded 27 hits, three home runs and seven doubles in 23 games with Triple-A Louisville. He has a .375 on-base percentage and a .467 slugging percentage in those games.

Steer is a former third-round pick by the Minnesota Twins in the 2019 MLB Draft.

This season, between the Double-A and Triple-A level, the twenty-four-year-old has slashed .259/.354/.479, with 15 home runs, 45 RBIs and 53 runs scored over 71 games.

The Reds will get him into some major league games down the stretch here, but without the team competing for a playoff position, there won't be a lot of pressure on him to make much of an impact.
