Phillies Designate Infielder for Assignment

The Philadelphia Phillies have designated infielder Luis Garcia for assignment.

The Phillies needed to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for Dalton Guthrie and it appears that Garcia was the odd-man out.
The twenty-one-year-old has hit an abysmal .167/.316/.253, with three home runs, 11 RBIs and five stolen bases over 55 games in the low-level minors this season.

For his minor league career, Garcia has hit for just a .227 batting average, with 21 home runs, 129 RBIs and 41 stolen bases across 1,212 at-bats.

Garcia will most likely pass through waivers unclaimed and remain with the Phillies as organizational depth.
