Orioles Pitcher Clears Waivers; Sent Outright to Triple-A

He was designated for assignment last week by the Baltimore Orioles.

Phoenix Sanders has now passed through waivers unclaimed and has been sent outright to Triple-A Norfolk by the Orioles.

The Orioles claimed Sanders off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays earlier this month, but he never appeared in a major league game with the club.

On the season, with the Rays, Sanders has posted a solid 3.07 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 12 strikeouts over 14.2 innings.

In the minors, it's been a different story. The twenty-seven-year-old has registered an ERA of 6.19, a WHIP of 1.44 and 38 strikeouts across 32 innings in the minor leagues this season. He's appeared in 27 games, starting one and converting one save.

Sanders will remain with the Orioles as organizational depth.
