Dodgers Sign Former Closer

The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed pitcher Keone Kela to a minor league contract.

Kela underwent Tommy John surgery in May of 2021 and had allowed five runs in seven innings of work since returning to live action in July. He had been pitching with the Arizona Diamondbacks' Triple-A affiliate.

The twenty-nine-year-old is a former closer for the Texas Rangers and has enjoyed some solid seasons in the past. Kela last pitched in the major leagues in 2021 with the San Diego Padres, posting a 5.06 ERA in 10 innings of work.

For his career, Kela owns a solid 3.33 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 279 strikeouts over 227 innings of work. He's converted 24 saves in seven seasons.

The Dodgers have a knack for picking up seemingly washed-up pitchers and turning their careers around. Perhaps, that can happen with Keone Kela.
