Chicago Cubs Designate 2 Players for Assignment

The Chicago Cubs have designated Frank Schwindel and Sean Newcomb for assignment

Schwindel is certainly a notable DFA, as he has played in 75 games for the Cubs this season. During them, he had eight home runs, 36 RBIs, and a .229 batting average. These numbers are a bit disappointing, as he had an excellent .342 batting average in 56 games with the team last year. However, he was unable to replicate that success and now has been removed from the club's 40-man roster.

Newcomb, on the other hand, joined the Cubs earlier this season from the Atlanta Braves. He has struggled since, as his 9.13 ERA in 17 appearances shows effectively.

We will need to wait and see if either of these players get claimed from here.
