Blue Jays Option Pitcher Following Disastrous Outing

It was an ugly outing for him on Tuesday night.

Now, the Toronto Blue Jays have optioned pitcher Julian Merryweather to Triple-A Buffalo.
Merryweather was lit up for five earned runs, allowing three hits and two walks over 0.2 innings of work against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night.

The thirty-year-old's ERA wasn't great before the outing, but it really got inflated following it, now up to 6.75, with a 1.43 WHIP and 23 strikeouts over 26.2 innings this season.

Merryweather has been back and forth between the majors and minors all season long. In the minors, he's been pretty much perfect this season, posting a 0.00 ERA, a 0.71 WHIP, and 20 strikeouts over 14 innings pitched. He has a 3-0 record.

Merryweather has made appearances in the majors each of the last three seasons, all with the Blue Jays. He holds a career 5.64 ERA over 52.2 innings of work.
