Veteran Lefty Returns For 2nd Stint With Tigers

Back for his second go-'round with the club, left-hander Daniel Norris has been selected by the Detroit Tigers from their Triple-A affiliate.

Manager AJ Hinch told Norris, 'Listen, we have a small opportunity for you to take it and run with it.' He was excited to get the call." Norris will get at least two starts, and they'll go from there.

Since being reacquired from the Chicago Cubs this season, Norris has been down in Triple-A, waiting patiently for an opportunity. And pitching well in the meantime, building back up as a starter. In three games for Toledo, he allowed just 5 hits and 2 earned runs in 8.2 innings.

His season didn't begin quite as well, however, in Chicago. He saw action in 27 games, primarily as a reliever, and posted an ugly 6.90 ERA, while walking 21 batters in just 30 innings. The Cubs DFA'd him in July.

In his first tour of duty in Motown, Norris was one of the key pieces the Tigers received from the Toronto Blue Jays in the David Price trade in 2015, and he spent parts of 7 seasons in Detroit. Norris never quite lived up to his prospect pedigree, however, posting an 18-33 record and a 4.59 ERA in his time with the Tigers.
