Tigers Place Veteran Infielder On IL

It's been a tough year at the plate for 10-year veteran Jonathan Schoop. Following up a tremendous 2021 season with the Detroit Tigers, he's only been able to muster up a .202 average this year, a 75-point drop, and a .553 OPS, a full 200 point drop.

Now, he's headed to the injured list with a sprained ankle.

But while Schoop has struggled with the bat, the former All-Star has played elite defense at second base.

He leads the league in Outs Above Average, with a +23, far ahead of the second-best mark of Nolan Arenado's +15. But as noted, his hitting is ranked, by the wRC+ metric, as the worst in baseball.

The 30-year-old vet will have a few weeks to rest up and try to get his bat re-set to finish the season.
