The Phillies Season Turnaround has Been Insane

The Philadelphia Phillies had a 22-29 record on June 1st.

Things were looking bleak, Jean Segura was injured, and then starter Zach Eflin went down with an injury before Bryce Harper finally joined him on the injured list as well.

It seemed to be a throwaway season for the Phillies, the 22-29 start put them on track to miss the playoffs for the 11th straight year. The team then fired manager Joe Girardi on June 3rd, and things began to change in a remarkable way.

The team is a ridiculous 39-19 since June 1st.

The Phillies are now in sole possession of the second NL Wild Card spot, one game up on the San Diego Padres.

The team has been getting production from all over the diamond in this stretch. The Phillies are now tied for fourth in the MLB for runs per game (4.8), tied for ninth in hits per game (7.9), tied for ninth in batting average (.250), fifth in slugging percentage (.425), seventh in on-base plus slugging percentage (.739), and fifth in home runs (148). Their offense has been clicking.

Their pitching has not been lagging behind either, with the team posting the eighth best ERA in the MLB (3.77), tied for seventh in WHIP (1.21), tied for fifth in the least home runs allowed (103), and their defense's fielding percentage has been an unprecedented third best in the league (0.988).

The Phillies also have the most games with a starter going seven-plus innings pitched this season with 29. The Houston Astros are second with 27.

It's been an insane run for the Philadelphia Phillies and it doesn't appear to be stopping any time soon.
