Pirates Recall Slugging Rookie; Option Outfielder

He's getting another opportunity at the major league level this season.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have recalled rookie Jack Suwinski from Triple-A Indianapolis. In a corresponding move, outfielder Bligh Madris has been optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Suwinski has displayed some power at the major league level this season, slugging 14 home runs and 25 RBI in 73 games. He's slashed .200/.291/.427, indicating that he doesn't put the ball in play much but when he does he crushes it. One troubling flaw in the rookie's game is his high strikeout rate. Suwinski struck out 77 times during his time in the majors this season and has posted an even higher rate at the Triple-A level, which is not a good sign.

Suwinski batted sixth on Monday against the Milwaukee Brewers, going one-for-three with a single and a walk.

The Pirates have optioned Bligh Madris to Triple-A Indianapolis. Madris is also a rookie.

Madris was really nothing special at the major league level this season, slashing just .177/.244/.265, with one home run, seven RBI and two stolen bases across 39 games.
