Phillies Trade for Blue Jays Pitcher

He intended to opt out of his minor league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays, but they got the deal done first.

The Philadelphia Phillies are trading for pitcher Vinny Nittol for minor league catcher Karl Ellison.

The Phillies reportedly plan to add Nittoli to their big league roster on Thursday, per Jeff Passan.
The thirty-one-year-old has only ever made one career appearance in the majors but figures to get a few more here down the stretch on his new team.

Nittoli has been pretty good in the minors this season, posting a 3.30 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and 59 strikeouts over 46 innings. He has a 4-1 record, and of the 32 games he's appeared in, he's started four of them and converted two saves.

He's split time in the minors between Triple-A Wilkes Barre/Scranton and Triple-A Buffalo this season.
