Phillies Claim Pitcher Off Waivers

The Philadelphia Phillies have claimed left-handed pitcher Andrew Vasquez off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays. The team immediately optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Vasquez has really struggled this season, posting an 8.10 ERA in six innings with the Blue Jays. In the minors, however, the twenty-eight-year-old has been quite good. In 12 innings pitched, Vasquez has a 2.25 ERA, 0.42 WHIP, and eighteen strikeouts.

The Blue Jays signed Vasquez, this past March, to a one-year, $800,000 contract. He appeared in two games last season with the Dodgers and did not allow a run, striking out three batters.
