Padres and Nationals Complete Soto Deal; Nationals Acquire Slugger

The Padres and Nationals have finally completed their blockbuster deal. Eric Hosmer created a slight bump in negotiations when he refused to waive his no-trade clause to go to the Nationals but the Padres have now fixed that problem, sending slugger Luke Voit to the Nationals instead.

Voit has struggled average-wise this season, hitting just .225/.317,.416, but swatting 13 home runs and 48 RBIs in 82 games.

The thirty-one-year-old enjoyed the best season of his career in the shortened 2020 season, hitting 22 home runs and 52 RBIs. He finished ninth in MVP voting.

Washington will have team control of Voit through the 2024 season.

He completes the eight-player trade.
