Nationals Option Pitcher

He was shifted from the rotation to the bullpen earlier this week upon the return of Erick Fedde.

Now Cory Abbott has been optioned to Triple-A Rochester.

The Washington Nationals decided to call up top pitching prospect Cade Cavalli this week, so Abbott has been optioned to clear a roster spot for him.

The twenty-six-year-old right-hander has appeared in eight games for the Nationals this season and has been decent, posting a 4.74 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 23 strikeouts over 24 innings. He's made four starts on the season.

This is just Abbott's second season in the majors, as last season he threw a 6.75 ERA in 17 innings for the Chicago Cubs. Abbott should be back up with the Nationals very soon.
