Mariners Lock Up Superstar With Record-Setting Extension

The Seattle Mariners are finalizing a massive contract extension with breakout rookie phenom Julio Rodriguez.

According to Insider Jeff Passan, the contract is said to run 14 years, and guarantees the sure-fire Rookie of the Year $210M, with the possibility of earning him as much as an all-time baseball record $470M.

After coming into the season as one of the sport's top prospects, Rodriguez had a slow start, largely being victimized by a plethora of questionable 3rd strike calls. But he showed his composure by continuing to work at it, and has now reached the 20-20 club, after hitting his 20th home run this week, to go along with his 23 stolen bases. He reached the mark faster (107 games) than any player in the modern era, next to Fernando Tatis Jr. (97 games).

J-Rod is hitting .269 with a .799 OPS, while driving in 64 runs and scoring 64.

Julio Rodriguez is unquestionably the face of the Mariners franchise for years to come.
