Giants Catcher Out with Concussion; Infielder Recalled

The San Francisco Giants have placed catcher Joey Bart on the 7-day injured list with a concussion.

Bart was officially diagnosed with a concussion on Tuesday evening after being forced to exit Monday's game against the San Diego Padres after taking a hard foul tip off his mask in the top of the third inning.

Bart, a former top prospect, has disappointed this season, hitting an underwhelming .227/.311/.399, with 10 home runs, 21 RBI and two stolen bases across 74 games.

The Giants have recalled infielder Yermin Mercedes from Triple-A Sacramento. With Brandon Belt and Joey Bart on the injured list, Mercedes could see regular playing time down the stretch.

The twenty-nine-year-old had a pretty decent rookie season last year with the Chicago White Sox, but has been nothing special this year, slashing just .233/.325/.342, with one home run and eight RBI over 31 games played.
