Cardinals Release Veteran Pitcher

The St. Louis Cardinals had designated him for assignment earlier last week and he passed through waivers unclaimed.

T.J McFarland is now free to sign anywhere that he chooses.

The thirty-three-year-old has been brutal this season, posting an ugly 6.61 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, and 16 strikeouts across 32 innings. The Cardinals have seen all they want to, and now McFarland will be looking for a new home.

In his nine-year career before this season, McFarland pitched for the Baltimore Orioles, Arizona Diamondbacks, Oakland Athletics and St. Louis Cardinals, holding a decent ERA of 3.95 across 439 innings.

It remains to be seen if another team is willing to take a chance on the veteran.
