Another Marlins Pitcher To Undergo Tommy John Surgery

For the second time this month, and the 4th time this year, the Miami Marlins have lost a pitcher to Tommy John surgery, as the team has announced that Anthony Bender will be going under the knife.

Bender joins Paul Campbell, Cody Poteet and Max Meyer as Tommy John patients.

As one of the top late-inning options out of the Marlins bullpen, it's a tough loss for the team. And it's another bad break for Bender, who had already missed over two months this season with back stiffness.

The issue with Bender's arm was apparent during a game one week ago after throwing just five pitches, and can be seen in this video.

Bender had recorded 6 saves this season in 22 appearances, with a 3.26 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. Last year he was even more effective, recording a 2.79 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP, with 10.4 K/9.

With the TJ surgery, he'll likely miss most, if not all, of the 2023 season.
