A Look at the Padres' Depleted Farm System Following Historic Trade Deadline

The San Diego Padres went all in this trade deadline, acquiring star players such as Juan Soto, Josh Bell, Josh Hader, and Brandon Drury.

It came at a cost though. A cost of a lot of future talent.

Entering the 2022 season, the Padres had one of the best farm systems in baseball. Led by talented prospects such as CJ Abrams, Robert Hassell, Luis Campusano, Mackenzie Gore, James Wood, Jackson Merrill, Esteury Ruiz, Eguy Rosario, Robert Gasser, and Jarlin Susana, they were arguably one of the deepest prospect pools in the MLB.

How many of their top 15 prospects did they lose this trade deadline?

Well, from that list, all that remains are Luis Campusano, Jackson Merrill, and Eguy Rosario.

The Padres went from having one of the best farm systems in baseball to one of the worst. However, they received some of the best players in the world in exchange, making them a serious contender for the World Series this year. With bats featuring Juan Soto, Fernando Tatis Jr. (expected back soon), and Manny Machado, the Padres are going to be a very fun team to watch for the remainder of this season.

The only question is, can the San Diego Padres finally put it all together for their first-ever World Series title?
