MLB Rumors: Insider Handicaps Top 5 Teams In Soto Sweepstakes

With arguably the best hitter in baseball now on the trade market, which teams will be putting their best pitch forward to snag the Washington Nationals' Juan Soto?

Most of the leading candidates won't be much of a surprise, but MLB Insider Jon Heyman handicaps the frontrunners this way:

1. Texas Rangers  10-1

Heyman argues that if Soto and his agent Scott Boras are looking for a $500M contract, as many suspect, who better to go to than the team that spent a half-billion on free agents this past season?

2. Los Angeles Dodgers  12-1

Anytime there's a superstar available, you can never count the Dodgers out. Mookie Betts? Max Scherzer? Trea Turner? Freddie Freeman? You name them, the Dodgers want them. And they usually get them.

3. San Diego Padres  15-1

No, they wouldn't dare trade Fernando Tatis Jr., but rather want to pair him with Soto. The Pads have a lot of top-notch prospects they could send the Nationals' way.

4. New York Yankees  20-1

Yes, you were wondering when their name would come up. With the potential chance, however remote, for superstar Aaron Judge to leave in free agency after the season, why not have another superstar already in-house? But, as Heyman notes, they'd have to be ready to part with their top prospects, like Anthony Volpe and Oswald Peraza, which they've been unwilling to do thus far.

5. New York Mets  30-1

Hard to imagine the Nationals trading Soto in-division, but Mets' owner Steve Cohen certainly has the dough to wave at Soto.

Should be an interesting next couple of weeks up till the trade deadline.
