MLB Rumors: A Cardinals Offer That Could Land Juan Soto

Whenever there's a superstar player available, you can usually count the St. Louis Cardinals in as a realistic suitor. Over the last few seasons, they've snagged Paul Goldschmidt from the Arizona Diamondbacks and Nolan Arenado from the Colorado Rockies. And they signed both of them to huge extensions. Clearly, they aren't afraid of this tactic.

Now, with the best young player in the game available, count them in on Juan Soto.

And they can put together perhaps the best package of talent to entice the Washington Nationals.

The Nats will ask for third baseman Jordan Walker, the Cards' No. 1 prospect, though as former MLB GM Jim Bowden has noted, the Cardinals will resist giving up the 6'5" masher who's displayed exit velocities in the minors of 116 mph.

The Cards have some ready-made top young prospects with major league experience already that they could offer: any or all of second baseman Nolan Gorman, infielder/outfielder Brendan Donovan and/or outfielder Juan Yepez could step right into the Nationals' starting lineup.

On the pitching side, the Cards' No. 6 prospect Michael McGreevy could be put into the deal, and from their minor league top hitting prospects, young shortstop phenom Masyn Winn, who hit .349 to start the season at High-A, and is now at Double-A, could be the prospect the Nationals target.

Plenty of young talent in the Cardinals' system and at the major league roster to get a deal done here. St. Louis could easily be the favorite at this point.
