MLB Rumors: 3 Trade Targets For the Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies continue to cling to a hold of the last Wild Card spot in the National League (tied with the St. Louis Cardinals), but several other teams lurking, they're in desperate need of a boost.

Bryce Harper and Jean Segura are still a few weeks from returning, but the team is looking to add some reinforcements in the next week or so on the pitching side before the Aug. 2nd trade deadline.

"We’re coming down the stretch here now,” manager Rob Thomson said. “And we put ourselves in a pretty good spot. A lot better than we were a couple of months ago, for sure."

Targets include:

Noah Syndergaard

The Los Angeles Angels starter is on a one-year contract, so will be a free agent at season's end. He's performed reasonably well in his return from, essentially, two seasons off recovering from Tommy John surgery. He has an ERA of 4.00 and a 1.19 WHIP. He could have some extra motivation in a return to the same division as the New York Mets.

Merrill Kelly

The Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander is under contract for another season after this one, and is having a nice year in the desert, going 9-5 with a 3.26 ERA. He's pitching so well, in fact, the D-Backs may want to hold on to him.

Jose Quintana

The Pittsburgh Pirates veteran is having a nice bounce-back season at age 33, with a 3.99 ERA and an 81:29 strikeout to walk ratio. The left-hander is drawing interest from a number of teams, however.
