Guardians Place Starter On Injured List

The Cleveland Guardians will be without their No. 4 starter for some time, after exiting his start Wednesday night after just one inning.

Aaron Civale heads to the 15-day IL with a right wrist sprain.

Civale also missed time earlier this season with a strained glute muscle. Guardians manager Terry Francona said Civale has been dealing with a wrist issue for some time. He's certainly struggled this season, with a 6.17 ERA and 1.46 WHIP.

The 27-year-old had a breakthrough campaign last season, going 12-5 with a 3.84 ERA.

The team has promoted Tanner Tully from Triple-A to replace him on the roster, while also announcing that Oscar Mercado, now thrice DFA'd, has cleared waivers and been assigned to Triple-A.
