MLB Rumors: Padres To Part Ways With Infielder

According to Jon Heyman, Robinson Cano's tenure with the San Diego Padres is likely coming to a close, as the team is expected to request that the veteran infielder accepts a demotion to Triple-A. If this occurs, the 39-year-old would likely elect to reject their request and become a free agent instead.

Cano signed with the Padres after being released by the New York Mets earlier this season. After struggling in the Big Apple, he only has gotten worse with San Diego. In 11 games with the team, he has just three hits in 32 at-bats, which equates to a .094 batting average.

It will be intriguing to see what happens with Cano from here. If he becomes a free agent, there still could be some interest in the 17-year veteran due to his strong MLB resume.
