MLB Rumors: Cubs Are "Guaranteed" To Land One Of These Big 3 Free Agents This Offseason

It looks like it's going to be another huge free agent market for shortstops this coming offseason, and according to a report from USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Chicago Cubs are "guaranteed" to come out with one of them.

Trea Turner, Xander Bogaerts, and Carlos Correa (who will opt-out after the season to become a FA again) are the big names who the Cubs will be targeting.

President of baseball operations Jed Hoyer is ready to make the Cubs "big spenders" this winter, and an anonymous veteran general manager told Nightengale“I guarantee you they’re going to get one of them."

The Cubs went into fire-sale mode at last year's trade deadline, shipping off 2016 World Series linchpins Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant and Javy Baez. Only catcher Willson Contreras remains from that group, and he is among baseball's most likely to be traded players this summer.

But to start the rebuild, the Cubs did spend a bit of money this past winter, bringing in Seiya Suzuki for $85m and Marcus Stroman for $71M.

It appears that this coming offseason, they're going to make that kind of spending look like chump change.
