Mariners Catcher To Have Season-Ending Surgery

He came into the season at the top of his game, as the starting catcher for the Seattle Mariners. He was off to a great start, batting .303. Unfortunately, Tom Murphy then suffered a dislocated left shoulder on May 6th. And now, the news gets even worse.

It's season-ending surgery on the shoulder for Murphy, despite his valiant attempts at rehab.

He had tried everything he could to come back but manager Scott Servais said it was just time for him to shut it down, according to Mariners beat reporter Jen Mueller.

It's a tough break for Murphy, and a big loss for the Mariners. They will now continue to rely on Cal Raleigh as the starter. It's been a bit of a struggle for him at the plate, hitting .187, but he has shown some big power, with 9 homers and 19 RBIs.
