Bad News for Padres As Tatis Jr. Return Timeline Pushed Back

Well, this isn't the news that the San Diego Padres were hoping for. He has not been given the green light to begin swinging a bat, after a medical imaging result was somewhat disappointing.

The CT Scan "did not reveal the level of healing the Padres hoped" and Tatis's return timeline is now delayed. Safe to say we're looking at post-All-Star Break at this point, which is late July. In a best-case scenario.

Tatis continues to do fielding drills, both taking ground balls and throwing, but won't be swinging a bat just yet.

"A little bit happy I’m still progressing, a little bit sad it’s not at the pace that everybody wants, including myself on the front line," said Tatis after the results were known.

Tatis broke his wrist in an offseason motorbiking accident.

Even without their star shortstop, however, the Padres are tied for first place in the NL West, and off to the best start in franchise history, at 39-24.
