Blue Jays Pitcher Heads To The Injured List

After leaving Monday night's game prematurely with left side discomfort, Toronto Blue Jays reliever Julian Merryweather is headed back to the injured list.

It's not a list he's unfamiliar with, as Merryweather spent most of last season on the IL with an oblique strain that simply wouldn't heal. The Jays are hoping this is not a recurrence of an oblique issue.

He'll be out at least 15 days to start, with what's being called a left abdominal strain. Reliever Jeremy Beasley is back with the club to replace Merryweather.

After starting the 2021 season looking like an impact piece of the back-end of the Jays' bullpen, Merryweather went down with the oblique issue and only returned five months later, but with limited success.

This season, he'd been dealing with right knee discomfort back in April, and was eventually sent to Triple-A Buffalo in early May.

The 30-year-old currently has a 6.38 ERA, with a 1.42 WHIP.
