Video: Angels Rookie Pitcher Throws No-Hitter In 11th Career Start

The Los Angeles Angels had all the vibes on Tuesday night as Shohei Ohtani started the night receiving his MVP award from last season and rookie left-hander Reid Detmers handled the rest.

Detmers, in only his 11th career MLB start, throws a no-hitter against the Tampa Bay Rays, leading his team to a 12-0 victory. The southpaw was the Angels first-rounder from the 2020 draft and he showed exactly why management was so high on him in the draft. Detmers was electric on Tuesday against the Rays, and he completed his first complete game in years.

The 22-year-old is now the 25th rookie in MLB history to toss a complete-game no-hitter and the second from the Angels organization to do it. It's crazy to think he only struck out two batters, as his defense behind him was tested early and often. Detmers issued one walk on 108 pitchers. Another crazy stat via Stats by Stats is the Angels rookie lefty was the only pitcher since 1913 to throw a no-hitter after entering the game with a lifetime ERA above 6.00 in at least 40 career innings.

Who really cares? Let's witness history!
