Pirates Claim Catcher Off Waivers
The Pittsburgh Pirates have claimed Tyler Heineman off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays.
With Pittsburgh, Heineman will likely be utilized as the club's backup catcher. In 10 games this season with Toronto, he had zero home runs, one RBI, and a .267 batting average. It wasn't a bad start at all for the 31-year-old, and now he will be looking to improve even further as a Pirate.
Heineman is a catcher who is trying to cement himself a permanent home in the majors. In 30 career games over three seasons between the Marlins, Giants, and Blue Jays, he has one home run, four RBIs, and a .221 batting average.
