MLB Rumors: Robinson Cano Has Chosen New Team

After being waived last weekend by the New York Mets, 8-time All-Star Robinson Cano has been peddling his services to teams around the major leagues. According to at least one Spanish language report, he might have just chosen his next destination:

Hector Gomez is a respected Spanish-language based MLB Insider, and he's noting a tweet from a fellow Spanish sports journalist who goes by the twitter handle @JuniorCabreraC.

His tweet, translated, reads "I just got informed Robinson Canó signed with San Diego @LosPadres. Tomorrow the signing is official."

Trusted MLB Insider Jon Heyman, and many others, are confirming the rumor.

The Padres are desperate for an offensive boost, still facing another month+ without superstar Fernando Tatis Jr. And ironically, Cano and Tatis grew up minutes from each other in the Dominican (though many years apart obviously). Perhaps Tatis had a hand in bringing Cano aboard.

Luke Voit, who was supposed to fill the DH role, has been a disaster thus far. He's just been reinstated from the IL, but is hitting just .184 with two homers since coming over from the New York Yankees at the beginning of the season.

The 17-year veteran Cano could certainly help fill the DH role in San Diego. He's coming off a one-year suspension for PED use, and struggled in April with the Mets, but he might still have something in the tank (no pun intended).
