MLB Rumors: Red Sox To Shop Catcher

After a strong 2021 season, the Boston Red Sox have taken a massive step back this year. At this juncture, they have a disappointing 10-16 record and if they do not turn things around quickly, they will be sellers at the trade deadline. If this occurs, one player who likely will be on the move is Christian Vazquez.

Vazquez is in the final year of his contract and is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the season's end. According to the Boston Globe's Peter Abraham, Vazquez is also considering all options for when he hits the open market. As a result of this, it seems that a trade could be on the horizon.

Teams in need of some help behind the plate certainly should be calling Boston about Vazquez. Although he isn't a star, he provides a lot of overall reliability at catcher. In 631 career games with the Red Sox, he has 47 home runs, 228 RBIs, and a .258 batting average.
