MLB Rumors: Blue Jays and Guardians Discussed Blockbuster Trade

Turns out we almost had ourselves a blockbuster deal as reports have surfaced regarding trade talks held between the Cleveland Guardians and Toronto Blue Jays. According to sources close to the Blue Jays, the two teams discussed the parameters of a Jose Ramirez deal with a huge package offered to Cleveland.

Before the regular season began the two teams discussed the deal with the Blue Jays offering a 'choose 3 of 4' trade package. This package included outfielder Randal Grichuk (who has since been dealt to the Colorado Rockies), catcher Alejandro Kirk, pitcher Nate Pearson and utility man Cavan Biggio.

The deal of course never materialized and all that's happened since is Grichuk got dealt, Ramirez signed a mega-contract to stay in Cleveland, Kirk is playing good and Pearson and Biggio can't stay healthy. There's been some interesting details surfacing these past few weeks as well, as word is Ramirez never wanted to leave and it's rather obvious to be the case now as he took less money to stick around with the Guardians and got his agent to include a no-trade clause in his new extension.

While Toronto ended up landing Matt Chapman from the Oakland A's, there is still some potential they consider a move to upgrade at second base with Pearson and Biggio being involved in the package. You can certainly cross off Ramirez' name from the list of trade candidates as it's rather obvious where his heart lies.
