MLB Rumors: 4 Teams To Go After Brandon Nimmo in Free Agency

He might not get the accolades of another certain New York outfielder about to enter the free agent market, but Brandon Nimmo is once again quietly putting together another stellar season as the New York Mets leadoff man and center fielder.

And according to MLB Insider Jon Heyman, Nimmo "is outperforming just about every other center fielder in baseball," and will be garnering plenty of interest on the market after the season. On The Show podcast, Heyman noted at least four teams who will be looking seriously at Nimmo this coming offseason.

The Seattle Mariners, the Texas Rangers, the Chicago Cubs and the Philadelphia Phillies are all teams that Heyman has heard will be kicking the tires on the free agent CF.

The Cubs, he notes, will be spending money again this winter, while the Phillies are in need of improving their defense in the outfield, and a CF would be an ideal solution.

The Rangers, after spending over half a billion dollars improving their infield this past winter, could now look to focus on the outfield. The Mariners seem like a stranger choice, however, as they have rookie sensation Julio Rodriguez locked in at center field, while the return of former first-round pick Kyle Lewis offers yet another CF option.

Nimmo is batting .295 this season for the Mets, with a .389 on-base percentage, numbers that are right in line with his 2021 numbers of .292 and .401. Overall, in 7 years with the Mets, he has a .269 average with an .837 OPS.
