Cubs Infielder Elects Free Agency

Ildemaro Vargas' time with the Chicago Cubs organization is over, as he has elected to become a free agent.

After being designated for assignment and clearing waivers, Vargas was sent down to Triple-A Iowa. However, due to his MLB experience, he had the option to become a free agent and now has done just that.

Vargas will now be aiming to land himself a contract elsewhere. In 186 career games between the Diamondbacks, Twins, Pirates, and Cubs, he has nine home runs, 46 RBIs, and a .227 batting average. Let's see what happens with the utilityman from here.
