Twins Pitcher Designated For Assignment

The Minnesota Twins have designated Jharel Cotton for assignment.

Cotton was once viewed as one of the top prospects in baseball, but he has trouble reaching his full potential. As a result of this, he has seen himself on the move quite often, and that includes during this offseason, too. The Twins claimed him off waivers from the Texas Rangers in hopes that he could be a part of their bullpen. Yet, it's clear that they have had a change of heart.

In two appearances this season with Minnesota, Cotton has a 0.00 ERA but also four walks in two innings pitched. Perhaps his control problem resulted in the Twins making this move. Yet, when remembering that he had a 2-0 record and 3.52 ERA last season with Texas, it seems possible that a team could claim him off waivers or even trade for him. Alas, time will tell on that front.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Cotton from here. Perhaps his former Top-100 Prospect status could help him land a job shortly.
