Nationals Pitcher Designated For Assignment

The Washington Nationals have designated Patrick Murphy for assignment.

Murphy was claimed off waivers by the Nationals last season from the Toronto Blue Jays. Overall, he has struggled with Washington, as he has a 0-2 record and 5.55 ERA. In his six appearances this season, he has also allowed four earned runs in 5.2 innings pitched.

With Murphy being designated for assignment, teams will now have the opportunity to claim him off waivers. Teams are always looking for more pitching depth, so perhaps he could find himself a new home sooner rather than later. If not, the Nationals will likely assign him to Triple-A or could even elect to release him. Time will tell what happens on that front.
