MLB Rumors: Red Sox Ace Not Open To Extension Talks

According to Rob Bradford, Nathan Eovaldi is not open to having extension talks during the 2022 season. As a result of this, he will hit the open market next offseason.

Although Eovaldi is against the prospect of signing an extension during the season, that does not automatically mean that his time as a Red Sox is coming to a close. Once the season is over, they are expected to resume contract discussions, so perhaps a deal could come to fruition. Yet, this development certainly is not the best news for Boston.

With Chris Sale's injury trouble, Eovaldi has emerged as his replacement as the club's ace. His 2021 season was very impressive, as he made his first All-Star Game and sported an 11-9 record and 3.75 ERA. In his first two starts this season, he has a 1-0 record and 4.50 ERA.

Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if the Red Sox are able to sign after the season. If not, Eovaldi will be wearing a different cap next year.
