MLB Rumors: Cardinals Having Extension Talks With Outfielder

According to John Denton, the St. Louis Cardinals are making progress on a long-term contract extension with Tyler O'Neill.

O'Neill emerged as an excellent major league outfielder this past season, as he had 34 home runs, 80 RBIs, and a .286 batting average. He has had some struggles at the plate over his major league career, but that finally changed during this breakout campaign. With that, he also maintained his elite fielding ability, as he went on to win his second straight Gold Glove Award and Fielding Bible Award.

With all of this being said, it is understandable that St. Louis wants him to be a long-term part of their franchise. A season like that one is extremely impressive, and when looking at the fact that he is still just 26 years old, he has plenty of time left in his prime.

Nevertheless, if extension talks continue to go this well, don't be surprised to see O'Neill sign a big contract with the Cardinals from here.
