MLB Rumors: Blue Jays Discussing Catcher Trade as Roster Takes Shape

The Toronto Blue Jays are ready to kick off the 2022 season. The team is stacked with talent throughout their lineup and expectations are extremely high. While spring training is ongoing as hitters and pitchers alike knock off the rust, management continues to work the phones looking to maximize the talent on their MLB roster. As for who could be involved in talks, rumor has the Blue Jays looking to move Reese McGuire as it's expected Danny Jansen and Alejandro Kirk will be the catching tandem.

McGuire is a 27-year-old left-handed hitting catcher who showed well last season in 198 at bats. He finished the season with a .253 average along with 10 RBI and 50 hits. He was a former first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates and is arbitration eligible in 2023, hitting free agency in 2026.

So far during spring training McGuire has appeared in two games, getting to the plate seven times, and has yet to record a hit. Regardless of the current struggles, there's a market for McGuire as team's trying to solidify their depth charts before first pitch opening day.

The New York Yankees and Pirates could have interest in McGuire as talks are expected to continue as the spring concludes in a couple of weeks. Maybe this is one of the reasons he's being offered in trades....
