MLB Rumors: 3 Potential Destinations for Carlos Correa

Carlos Correa is one of the best free agents left to sign a new contract and he recently changed agents to help him with the process. Correa is hopeful super-agent Scott Boras is the right man for the job and can land him the biggest possible contract.

Let's examine a few teams who have been deemed the favorites to sign the long-time Houston Astros shortstop.

New York Yankees

Even after the comments about Derek Jeter, Correa could land himself in the Bronx. The team has tried since Jeter left to fill the giant shoes and while many have failed, Correa is the type of talent that could flourish. The Yankees are looking to make a couple more big moves before spring training and will certainly be pedal to the floor once the lockout is finished. Nobody has the cash like the Yanks, so don't ever count them out of this race. Boras had some interesting comments about how all teams could use his client on their roster:
He fits all organizations. We've seen organizations that are in development mode go out and get players like that. We've seen organizations that want to sustain championship levels like you would expect in Houston. And then we've seen organizations who are close but not quite there go and get these types of players

Detroit Tigers

The Tigers are the dark horse in this race as manager A.J Hinch and Correa have a relationship from their days together in Houston and you can bet your bottom dollar Hinch is playing this up as much as possible. We know they have met at least once for lunch to discuss his role on the team and Correa would certainly be 'the guy' in Detroit. If he wants to win ball games, the short stop may want to look elsewhere. The Tigers still feel like they are a few years away from contending, so it's unlikely this ends up being the final destination.

Chicago Cubs

If it was up to one of the newest Cubs Marcus Stroman, Correa would have been signed a long time ago. The Cubs have the resources to complete a contract and will certainly have a ton of interest in getting involved in the bidding war. Chicago has recently closed the book on some big names of their franchise including Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo, and Correa could become the next wave of talent to be the face of the Cubs. While the Yankees may be considered the favorite, the Cubs may end up winning the sweepstakes.
