Gordon Beckham Announces Retirement

Longtime MLB infielder Gordon Beckham has officially announced his retirement.

Beckham has not played in the majors since the 2019 season when he was a member of the Detroit Tigers. However, during the 2020 campaign, he signed minor league deals with the San Diego Padres and then New York Mets in an attempt to get back to the bigs. In both instances, he would end up being released just one month after signing them.

That's not to say that Beckham didn't have a long career, though. In 1,069 career games over 11 seasons between the Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels, Atlanta Braves, San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners, and Tigers, he had 80 home runs, 351 RBIs, and a .237 batting average. His most success occurred during his first few years in the league. However, as time passed by, he became more of a depth guy. Even with this being the case, he still carved out a lengthy career, and that deserves praise.

Nevertheless, enjoy your retirement, Gordon!
