New York Mets Sign Star Center Fielder

The New York Mets already had a great day when they signed Eduardo Escobar and Mark Canha. However, they have not stopped there, as they also have signed star center fielder Starling Marte to a four-year, $78 million contract.
There were a plethora of teams in on the Marte sweepstakes and it ultimately made sense. He was the best center fielder on the open market and is also coming off of a magnificent season. In 120 games between the Miami Marlins and Oakland Athletics, he had 12 home runs, 55 RBIs and a .310 batting average. With that, he also had an impressive 47 stolen bases.

The 2021 campaign was certainly a great one for Marte, but he also has been a very consistent player throughout his career. In fact, as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates, he was an All-Star in 2016 and won two Gold Glove Awards.

In 1,134 career games between the Pirates, Arizona Diamondbacks, Marlins and Athletics, Marte has 126 home runs, 502 RBIs and a .289 batting average.

Marte is exactly the kind of talent that the Mets needed to add, so props to them for getting it done.
