History Made For One Team As Gold Glove Winners Announced

Some teams can say they have good defense, but no team in the history of baseball has ever been able to say they have 5 Gold Glove Winners... Until now.

The St. Louis Cardinals have been awarded a full handful of five Gold Gloves, the first time ever in MLB.

  • First Base: Paul Goldschmidt
  • Second Base: Tommy Edman
  • Third Base: Nolan Arenado
  • Center field: Harrison Bader
  • Left field: Tyler O'Neill
In fact, the last team to even win 4 Gold Gloves came way back in 2003. And guess who? The Cardinals.

According to MLB.com, Bader set his sights on a Gold Glove back in spring training. “I want one. I want one more than anything”. He certainly backed it up. It's the first Cardinals CF win one since one of the greatest center fielders of this generation was making spectacular catch after spectacular catch, Jim Edmonds (2005).

Edman followed in Kolten Wong's footsteps, who won the last two Gold Gloves at 2B, both for the Cardinals.

For Arenado, this is old hat. It's his 9th Gold Glove at third. Only Brooks Robinson and Mike Schmidt have more at the position in the history of baseball.

For Goldschmidt, it's his 4th Gold Glove, and first as a Cardinal.
For O'Neill, it's his second consecutive.
