Derek Jeter Has a Very 'Jeter' Response to Carlos Correa Slam

When Houston Astros villain (and current free agent) Carlos Correa decided to publicly, and some would say, unnecessarily, trash Derek Jeter, it left many scratching their heads. Why would a free agent, who's high on the New York Yankees' radar for a $300M+ contract, go out and rip the Yankee legend, insisting he didn't deserve any of his 5 Gold Gloves? What possible good can come of a comment like that?

The other lingering question was what did the first-ballot Hall of Famer, and former Yankee captain, Jeter think about it? Reporter Craig Mish caught up with the Miami Marlins' part-owner and CEO for an answer. And he responded as only the always-classy Jeter can... with a smile and a shrug.

Correa made the attack on a Spanish-language podcast, but it was picked up by English media shortly thereafter. "Yeah, I heard about that. I didn't think much about it," said Jeter. "I don't know how my name came up. My Spanish is not that good."

Jeter summed it up appropriately with "It doesn't even warrant a response. I could go a lot of different directions, but I won't."

Whether or not Correa deserved a World Series ring in 2017 when the Houston Astros were found to have cheated in an illegal sign-stealing scandal could have been one of the directions that Jeter went. But again, he's never been one to be involved in on- or off-the-field trash talk.

How Yankee fans will feel if the team ultimately signs Correa will be one of the most fascinating stories of the offseason.
