3 Potential Landing Spots For Trade Target Craig Kimbrel

Earlier this month, we reported that the Chicago White Sox plan to pick up Craig Kimbrel's $16 million club option and then trade him. After being extremely dominant with the Chicago Cubs to start the season, Kimbrel struggled immensely with the White Sox after the trade. In 24 games with the White Sox, he had a 2-2 record and 5.09 ERA. With the Cubs, he had a 0.49 ERA in 39 games and made the All-Star game. Therefore, teams who need bullpen help still will be calling about him.

Here are three potential landing spots for the closer.

Tampa Bay Rays: The Tampa Bay Rays were heavily interested in Kimbrel at the trade deadline. Even after his struggles with the White Sox, one has to wonder if they would be willing to explore this avenue again. Kimbrel's trade value certainly isn't as high as it was at the trade deadline, either. Thus, keep an eye on the Rays, as they could use another arm in their bullpen.

New York Mets: The New York Mets ended the year with a disappointing 77-85 record. They will be looking to improve upon their roster this off-season and they could look at Kimbrel. Edwin Diaz may have had a pretty good season, especially compared to his disastrous 2019 campaign, but it wouldn't hurt to have another option for closer. They would form a strong one-two punch if Kimbrel can get back to his previous form.

Los Angeles Angels: If the Los Angeles Angels lose Raisel Iglesias through free agency, it would not be surprising at all to see them enter the Craig Kimbrel sweepstakes. This is a team who is desperately trying to take that next step, but have been stuck in purgatory. With superstars Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani on their roster, they cannot waste their primes and need to build a playoff team. Thus, if Iglesias walks, they should be aggressive and acquire Kimbrel.
