Rumor: New York Yankees To Target Shortstop This Off-Season

Even though the New York Yankees have Gleyber Torres, they may go after another big-name shortstop this winter, according to Jon Heyman. He stated this after the Yankees moved Torres to second base for yesterday's game. He notes Carlos Correa, Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, Trevor Story and Javier Baez as potential candidates.

The Yankees have always been notorious spenders, so it would not be surprising to see them bring in one of these guys this off-season. At the trade deadline this season, they went all in when they traded for Anthony Rizzo and Joey Gallo. In 32 games with the Yankees so far, Rizzo has 6 home runs, 17 RBIs and a .250 batting average. Gallo, on the other hand, has 8 home runs, but a very low .145 batting average since the trade.

Therefore, it makes sense that the Yankees would like to go after another star. The other two have not been as dominant as they would have liked so far. At this point of the season, the Yankees have an 80-64 record and are tied for third with the Boston Red Sox in the AL East. The Blue Jays are a game ahead of them, while the Tampa Bay Rays are up by nine. If the Yankees have a big skid and these other teams pour it on, they could find themselves out of the Wild Card race, too. With the division continuing to get stronger, one can understand why the Yankee would be aggressive this winter..

We will have to wait and see what occurs on this front. It should be an interesting off-season to say the least.
